Dear RSU 3 Community,
I am writing to share more information and reflections following the heartbreaking news of the passing of Mount View High School staff member Travis Collins, whose loss is being deeply felt across our district.
This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Travis’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew and cared for him. He was a cherished member of our school family, well known for his work in the alternative education program. In 2011, he was recognized with an award for 'working diligently to create a positive, authentic learning environment for the most at-risk student population'—work that was exemplified by his leadership in the RSU 3 greenhouse project.
We recognize that this news may be incredibly difficult for many in our community. Support services have been and will continue to be available for students and staff, and we encourage anyone in need to reach out. We have had additional counselors at school for the past two days and we will continue to provide resources in the coming days.
In times like this, we are reminded of the importance of holding each other close and offering care and compassion. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out—for help, for connection, for support. You are not alone.
I would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support that we have received. The incredible gestures of kindness and compassion have been astounding and remind us of how lucky we are to live and work in this amazing community.
Please keep Travis and his loved ones in your thoughts during this profoundly difficult time. We will relay any additional information from the family regarding celebration of life opportunities.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Lisa Roux, Assistant Superintendent
