The Civil Rights Team Spreads the Word at MVMS

The MVMS Civil Rights Team hosted a "pledge drive" at lunch on 3/2/16 to promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our campaign asks people to pledge to stop saying the "R-word" as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people. We believe language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions. Nobody was forced to sign the pledge- it was voluntary. As a school we learned more about this important "Spread the Word to End the Word" national campaign and person-first language in our extended advisory on 3/3/16. There were some really powerful conversations and our students we in great support of the message. You can learn more at: R-Word
