Dear Parents/Guardians of RSU 3 Students,
As you are aware, the weather this year has been a challenge in regards to school closings. To date, we have lost 7 days. By law, all students in grades K-11 must attend a minimum of 175 school days, and Seniors must attend at least 170 days. Although I had taken action on six of the lost days by adding on to the end of the school year, our last lost day on March 15 added another day to make up. With the consent of the RSU 3 Board of Directors, I applied for a waiver from the Commissioner of Education to waive one day of our required school days. That request was denied. However, an alternative plan that uses the remaining early release days to make up our time was approved. With this, Friday, April 14, Friday May 12, and Friday May 26 will now be full student days. By making this adjustment, we are able to make up the last lost school day without having to extend the school year any longer. Provided that no additional days are lost, our last student day for Seniors will be Friday, June 9th, and our last day for all other students will be Friday, June 16th.
Please feel free to contact me or your school Principal should you have any questions.
